....intro [28 Mar 2006|08:34pm]

Hello. So you ask for an introduction and here I am writing one!

I'm Cathy, 17 years old and live in Brazil. I'm not exactly a fan of the movie Dogville, but it is required for one of my subjects in uni (theory of comunication).

Anyway, I am here to ask you where I can find good images of the movie, mostly screen caps, that's really what I'm after, but anything would do, as I can't find good pictures anywhere.
I have to design a magazine cover relating to the movie, and also a poster for it, so when it is ready I'll surely share the artwork here (and maybe some of my classmate's work as well, I trust they'll be really good! =D)
Anyway, I guess that's all, please help me out with this. As you know Dogville is not your ordinary movie, so it's hard to find material about it.

Hi! I'm a new member.
My name is Mariana and I'm from Portugal. I'm a huge fan of both Nicole and Dogville. I've seen the movie a few times and it keeps getting better...
I own the DVD (region 2) and it also has wonderful extras: interviews, press conferences and "dogville confessions" which is amazing...

Hope I get to talk to you

Hello [18 Aug 2004|12:28am]

I'm Kakia, 25 from Greece. I'm a huge Lars von Trier fan.

I'm very glad I've found this community and I can't wait to read all the entries and get to know you people. I've seen 'Dogville' few months ago and I was enchanted. I think it's the best Trier film. I'll post more some other time, right now I just want to read what you people have to say about the film.

(by the way, does anyone know if there's a community for Lars?)

Hi! Just to introduce myself: My name is Jaina, and I'm a huge Nic fan. This film looks dark and disturbing, but also intensely compelling. I have yet to see it, but as soon as I can find a friend to go with me, I will!
Just wanted to say hello...if you have any interest in talking (about anything - my interests are pretty broad) feel free to contact me through either LJ or my contact info (to be found on my info page).
Hope to talk to you all soon!

Little help? [24 May 2004|10:25pm]

[ mood | angry ]

Hi everybody I'm Sarah and I'm 15. I'm a HUGE Lauren Bacall fan!! I have a problem:

My parents said they would take me to see Dogville sometime this week. Then my mom decided she didn't want to because it's rated R. Now, this isn't that I'm not allowed to see R films but my mom has a great aversion to sex in films. So, my question to you all who have see Dogville, how sexual is it?

I know I sound terribly juvenile 'oh my mommy is so mean' but that's not what I'm saying. I'm trying to present a backable arguement to her and any help would be appreciated.

...If this town doesn't like me, there's nothing I can do about that. [08 May 2004|04:54pm]

...apparently, I'm supposed to introduce myself.

So...I am Tony.

Dogville is my favorite movie, upon seeing it (aprox) 2 weeks ago. I am enthralled by it, and I think the entire cast is excellent, and Lars von Trier is a genius.

I haven't yet bought the "legal reigon 0" DVD, although I'm planning on it, as I just found out it existed this morning.

...so. Hello.

Some things you have to do yourself. [25 Apr 2004|05:39pm]

[ mood | impressed ]

Hello, my name is Malu, Lu for short, I'm 18 minus three weeks, I live in Belgium. I bought Dogville on a Nicole/Lars von Trier-loving whim two days ago, and watched it for the first time today.

I honestly couldn't conjure up enough superlatives to describe this film to satisfy my own need to explain to you all what an enormously profound impact this film has already had upon me, after just the first viewing. It is such a powerful driven character study of humanity and emotion, putting a seemingly quiet mountain town under the lens like this and watching the unraveling as an unexpected factor is dropped in their midst. It tells such a poignant story of a single woman's metamorphosis in view of the degenerating morality of the people she depends on. And the effects of this and the will of survival versus an exploiting community that reduces her to a lesser being in order to treat her as less than a dog, when it is them whose true natures blossom as they get to exorcize power for the first time...

It really is one of the most impressive movies I've ever seen, and this is just the basic story I've covered so far. The execution itself... it is such an interesting concept, of taking the subject itself and stripping away everything else surrounding it, leaving room for utmost interpretation. Hardly any decor to speak of (a charcoal drawing on the floor for a dog, no doors just the sound of a knob turning and the actors moving as though they're opening and closing it), no sky, no ground, no walls... Especially in one particularly powerful scene where something unforgivable happens to Grace, this effect is used wonderfully. You simply *can't* look away. I didn't even notice the three hour length until I checked the DVD box, they flew by as though the movie took only half that time to play out.

Another incredible thing is that, because of the tremendous acting, it didn't take but 20 minutes at most to entirely forget I was looking at, what was basically, an empty set. My imagination added what wasn't shown, and everything else was given to me by the actors.

Review/rave continued hereafter: spoilers kept to a censored minimumCollapse )

Hello! [25 Apr 2004|07:49am]

[ mood | i'm psychoticcccc ]

(see title)

Ever since I saw 'Dogville' I wasn't able to appreciate any other movie, because it is one of the most intelligent movies I ever saw.

Well, there isn't much to say about me, but...
My name is Olivia, I am 14, and I want to become a writer (I love Virginia Woolf).
I live in Montreal, Canada (a.k.a the lost hole of the world).
Erm...I play piano, and I don't consider the 'music' that everyone listends to 'music'. Sorry.
Oh yeah and I have a borderline personality disorder.
Don't ask.
You can just call me 'freak' or 'kiddo'.
Hope I didn't take up too much of your time :)

ps: I'm sorry I ruined the fact that you were 15 members. I'll just be...the mafia or the dog ;)
